Jehovah's Witnesses Visit No. 105

Jehovah's Witnesses Congress Frankfurt

The hunger for the connection with God is noticeable.

Could it be that the Watchtower Society has abandoned resistance to photographing Jehovah's Witnesses? During my short visit of Jehovah's Witnesses to the Congress in Frankfurt today, I was amazed by the almost friendly composure with which Jehovah's Witnesses were photographed. There were also arrogant looks (photograph me, you ...), but overall nobody took offence. But it could also be that this controversy was dropped because these Jehovah's Witnesses in Frankfurt didn't even know me as the one who holds up signs against the Watchtower doctrine in pedestrian zones.

The atmosphere at the Jehovah's Witnesses Congress in Frankfurt was one of genuine hope for another world. This expressed itself so strongly that in a foyer I had the impression that they all had the feeling of a person watching a very good science fiction film. The singsong was transmitted into this room by sound and image from outside and a Jehovah's Witness said: "I have goose bumps! I could empathize with that and once again I noticed what substitutes man uses when he has no connection to God, but only to an organization.

Spiritual hunger

The spiritual hunger of the Jehovah's Witnesses was very clearly felt. Jehovah's Witnesses do not even know that "spiritually" the knowledge means and "spiritually" the faith. Jehovah's Witnesses are in a knowing role while Christians believe. They cannot experience the spiritual fulfillment that depends solely on Jesus, for they must follow the teaching that the spiritual knowledge of the Watchtower doctrine is all that a person can experience from God. So I have seen many who have fervently followed the events through earplugs and have made themselves feel good. It is not clear to any of them that no one can get to know God through knowledge. They are not told that they have to turn directly to Jesus when they seek spiritual fulfillment. So Jehovah's Witnesses rely on pure autosuggestion to make themselves feel Christian.

They then call this Christian feeling God devotion and do not understand that they have already landed deep in Islam with this term. This devotion is used, for example, as a slogan for the Eintracht Frankfurt football club on an underpass near the Commerzbank Arena. Jehovah's Witnesses do not take offence because they know devotion as something completely normal. To be devoted to God is the peculiarity of every person who is on a religious journey. Muslims, Jehovah's Witnesses, the fans of Eintracht Frankfurt – all are devoted to their respective God. Jehovah's Witnesses do not know that being a Christian has nothing to do with such things. To be in Jesus is something completely different than to be devoted to Him. Devotion is perhaps a by-product of Christianity, but Christianity itself is: We in him and he in us.

He who knows Jesus no longer lives by himself and does not need any devotion to him. He who is in Jesus lives from Him and takes himself back and is amazed at what God is doing in his life. Being a Christian has a completely different basis than religion. Religion requires continual devotion, Christ demands this only once and then lives in us and us from Him.

If Jehovah's Witnesses had been given Catholic priest robes at this congress, there would have been no difference between what Catholics experience in their church and what they feel is so invigorating for themselves. The religious piety that is supposed to close the vacuum that exists when someone is not the property of Jesus, this facade piety has Catholics and Jehovah's Witnesses in common. The solemn atmosphere is all well and good, but it only deceives us that no man can find Jesus through religion.

The real peace that Jesus gives, this never-again-prushing, this sealed, certified, repeatedly pioneering in-Jesus-being is something that cannot be conveyed through religion. There are facade Christians everywhere, but the fate of the Jehovah's Witnesses, whom I saw in this half hour, shouted literally at me: "We have nothing but our self-made piety, we have nothing but our devotion!" The Watchtower Religion is a single great pious facade to keep people from Jesus. Jehovah's Witnesses are so hard on these Watchtower science fiction feelings that they are no longer reachable for arguments. But for them, as for all people, there is only one hope. This is called Jesus in direct contact and direct address. Those who cannot call on the name of Jesus Christ in prayer have no contact with the Father. Because Jesus is the only mediator between us and God.
